A Global Journey

The Last Three Months: A Global Journey of Music, Culture, and Connection

The past three months have been nothing short of incredible—filled with travels, gigs, and unforgettable experiences that have pushed my creativity and love for music to new heights. As I reflect on this whirlwind of events, I’m reminded of how far I’ve come and how much further I want to go. Every city, venue, and crowd has left its mark on me, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve had to share my passion with the world.

A Global Stage

From performing at iconic events like opening for Nelly, to sharing the stage with Shaboozey, and even playing sets around the world—from France to Greece, Colombia to Mexico—the last few months have been a dream come true. My time in Greece stands out as a truly memorable experience, where I DJed alongside the Juicy Boys on a Tuesday night in Athens. The energy of the crowd and the music made it one of those nights I won’t forget. There’s something magical about seeing people come together through sound, no matter where you are in the world.

I’ve also had the privilege of DJing weddings in places like Medellín, Colombia. The immaculate vibe in Medellin for a beautiful couple’s celebration was another moment where I was reminded of the power of music to create lifelong memories. It’s these intimate, personal experiences that fuel my love for what I do.

Bringing the Vibes to the Court

On the sports front, being the in-house DJ for the Utah Jazz NBA team has been an incredible honor. Performing at half-time shows, has only deepened my love for fusing music with live sports. The energy of a stadium packed with fans is unlike any other, and being able to contribute to that atmosphere is something I’m truly passionate about.

From Fashion to Film: Curating the Ultimate Experience

It’s not just sports where I’ve been fortunate enough to make an impact. I’ve worked with incredible clients like the Sundance Film Festival, Range Rover, and the NHL, curating events that range from private parties to weddings and fashion shows. Whether it’s the elegance of a fashion event or the high energy of a sports game, I approach each gig with the same dedication—ensuring that the vibe is exactly right for the moment.

Afro House in Salt Lake City

Recently, I’ve been focusing on building up the local scene in Salt Lake City. One of the most exciting projects on the horizon is hosting a night of Afro House music, a genre close to my heart. I’m collaborating with some fantastic partners to make this a reality, and I know it will be a night to remember. Afro House has a unique way of bringing people together, and I can’t wait to see the community come alive with this rhythm.

New Music, New Horizons

Another big milestone is just around the corner—I’m releasing my first-ever track this November! This has been a dream in the making, and I can’t wait to share it with you all. It feels like the perfect time to release my own music after spending years curating the sounds of others. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new chapter.

A Heart Full of Gratitude

Looking back on all the traveling, performances, and experiences, one thing stands out: my gratitude for every single person who has supported me along this journey. Whether you were in the crowd at a basketball game, dancing at a club in Greece, or cheering from afar, I appreciate you. These past three months have been a testament to the power of music, and I’m more excited than ever for what’s to come.

The journey continues, and I’m ready for the next chapter—let’s keep pushing the boundaries of sound, culture, and connection.

Thank you for being a part of this ride.

2023 NBA All-Star starters announced

LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo are named captains as the All-Star Game returns to Salt Lake City for the 1st time since 1993.

We got exiting news:

LeBron James is closing in on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA career scoring record. And now, he has caught Abdul-Jabbar on another page of the All-Star record book.

James was announced Thursday as an NBA All-Star for the 19th time, the Los Angeles Lakers’ star tying Abdul-Jabbar for the most selections in league history. James — the leading overall vote-getter — will be the captain of one of the teams for the Feb. 19 All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, while Eastern Conference voting leader Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks will captain the other side.

•  2023 NBA All-Star All-Star roster

Eastern Conference starters

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)

  • Kevin Durant (Brooklyn Nets)

  • Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics)

  • Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers)

  • Kyrie Irving (Brooklyn Nets)

Western Conference starters

  • LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

  • Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets)

  • Zion Williamson (New Orleans Pelicans)

  • Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)

  • Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks)

This is the sixth year the NBA has used the captain format for the All-Star Game; James has been a captain every time and has never lost, taking a 5-0 record into this year. Antetokounmpo is a captain for the third time, after also earning that right in 2019 and 2020.

James and Antetokounmpo will pick their teams shortly before the game in Salt Lake City, a newly announced twist and a departure from past years in which the captains picked a week or two in advance of All-Star weekend.

The other eight starters they’ll be choosing from, barring any changes because of injury beforehand, are: Denver’s two-time reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, NBA scoring leader Luka Doncic of Dallas, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Brooklyn teammates Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell and New Orleans’ Zion Williamson.

“I’m definitely blessed and humbled to be a part of this,” Mitchell said during the televised starters’ announcement on TNT. “To be a part of my fourth All-Star and now to be a starter, I couldn’t be happier.”

The big intrigue was the third East frontcourt spot, where Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid — No. 2 in the NBA’s scoring race entering Thursday at 33.4 points per game — was the odd man out after Antetokounmpo, Durant and Tatum were the top three in the balloting.

Starters — three frontcourt players and two guards from each conference — were selected by a combination of three different votes: fan balloting counted for 50%, media balloting was worth 25% and voting by the NBA’s players made up the final 25%.

The reserves, which are chosen by votes from the league’s coaches, will be announced Feb. 2. Among the players certain to merit strong consideration: Portland’s Damian Lillard, Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Boston’s Jaylen Brown and Miami’s Bam Adebayo.

James is 157 points away from Abdul-Jabbar’s career scoring total of 38,387 points. At his current average of 29.9 points per game, James will need just over five games to break the record – and, if he doesn’t miss any games in the interim, would be on pace to pass Abdul-Jabbar in a Feb. 7 home game against Oklahoma City.

NBA All-Star rosters to be picked on game night

Team captains will make their picks in a live, televised pregame segment shortly before the game begins in Salt Lake City.

For the First time ever in the 2023 AllStar: The NBA All-Star Game is Feb. 19. And nobody will know the All-Star rosters until that night.

Not even the players themselves.

The team captains — probably LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and either Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo or Brooklyn’s Kevin Durant — will make their picks in a live, televised pregame segment shortly before the game begins in Salt Lake City.

The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association announced the format change on Tuesday night.

In the mean Time, a lot of events are shaping up nicely in the city, as a NBA DJ, I can’t wait to be apart of all the many activation. Stay Tune for more info.

What to know ahead of NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah

What to know ahead of NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah

This weekend will be a great Week / Weekend for the state of Utah. A lot of people will be in town and, for a big majority of them, this will be their first time in Utah.

This will be a great opportunity for us locals to show the world the best of what Salt Lake City has to offer. Festivities will kick off on Friday February 17th, and continue throughout the weekend, creating several opportunities for your family to join the celebration.

If you have a business with an amazing service  to offer, how can you benefit from this amazing opportunity ?

First thing first, preparation is key.

Always figure out a way to bring maximum value to all our visitors in a very unique and creative way. A lot of people coming to town will not necessarily go to all the activities happening at Vivint Arena, but they will look around to see what else is around them that they can add to their itinerary.

I think the key to getting ahead and ready for this major event, is to start positioning yourself now. Make it as easy as possible for anyone to find you and what you have to offer. If you need to update your website, or make a specific post on your social media for this weekend, I think that will be very beneficial to anyone who’s looking for your services.

Network with your local vendors, and figure out how you can help each other, maybe create a referral network, to make sure you always have a solution for the different needs of all those people coming to our city.

Expect celebrities to also be part of your clientele, so be ready for anything. We should expect people from all walks of life and all kinds of industries, so I am personally excited about it.

Most people coming here will come to enjoy NBA events, but also enjoy our city. We have a lot to offer and we should show that case in the best way possible. Let’s have as many events as possible and celebrate this win for our city. Whether you want to focus on the people going and staying in Park City, vs the crowd Downtown, there’s plenty happening. As a DJ and a vibe Curator, I will be having my own event and also participate in many other activations.

I am so excited and I am looking forward to help making this whole all-star weekend in Salt Lake City a memorable one.

If you have any questions or would like to talk more about collaboration, please email me at: DJJoune@gmail.com Or send me an inquiry through my website: https://djjoune.com

Alum DJ Joune talks passion, gratitude, and grit with First Ascent Scholars

Each year the David Eccles School of Business invites First Ascent scholars, faculty, and mentors to connect over dinner and listen to an alumni guest speaker. This year, DJ Joune, the official home DJ of the Utah Jazz, spoke at the event and shared how he lives a life of passion and service.

Joune began his inspirational talk with a snapshot of his background. Originally from Haiti, he described his move to Utah as a “second birth.” Joune shared his struggles as an international student, discovering his identity, pursuing his passion for music, and overcoming personal challenges. This process allowed him to channel his passions into reality.

Sharing photos of his early-DJing days, he explained that every year brought new hurdles, and that flexibility is essential to success. Between 2008 and 2020, Joune summed an equation to show how he came to be where he is now:

Time + Perseverance + Risk + Education + Action + Grit + Mindset + Failures + Help = New Me

By first focusing on personal development and then defining his passion, Joune was able to commit to a life plan around his goals. Success to him meant dedication, freedom, and hard work. Gratitude for opportunities, and also being thankful for what you currently have while you work on what you want, is essential. Failure and feedback ultimately lead to growth, and Joune encouraged students to use this lesson to their advantage.

“DJ Joune was great,” noted First Ascent Scholar Edwin Roman. “He was probably one of the best speakers we have had. Hearing him talk about what he learned from failures and triumphs was great. It was also a lot of fun to catch up with faculty that attend the event each year.”

Business Advice To Help You Get Through Tough Times

2020 started to be on the best year fo many people in my network and myself, until we a ll got shut down. Overnight everything stopped, no more events, no more inquiries, no more pay checks and not a clear sight of when things will get better. As a business owner and Entrepreneur, I have been through so many tough and dark time in my business years. One of the most important things I learn during those times is to remain calm. To help deal with Covid-19, wether you are in the business world or not, I put together a list of suggestion to help you go through those tough times.

1- Stay Calm

It is impossible to make sound decisions when you are panicking.

2- Focus on what you can control

Focus on staying in touch with you clients / Customer

Exercise social Distancing

Focusing on providing valuable content backed by reputable resources to help ease the panic.

Focus on what you can do to improve your skills, your website, your business etc…

If you are in need of cash to do Payroll or keep the doors open, find a way to use the local resources to see how you can use them. Do you have a bank you work with ? If so go talk to them. Tell them you would like to be in a position to get a loan, possibly an SBA loan, if and when the gov guarantees small bus loans. I would also go to your state’s .gov site and look for any emergency loan opportunities.

Exercise.

3- Stay Proactive

Nothing is going to fall on your lap. You need to be out and about. Make phone calls to people in your community, ask questions, visit government website to find a way to take control of your own situation.

4- Focus on service

Check on your friends, neighbors business partners to make sure they are also staying proactive. The best way to deal with this is by s haring valuable information and helping each other.

I hope those suggestion will help, please feel free to jump on the comments if you have anymore ideas. It’s going to be ok.

Wedding DJ Tips: Cocktail Hour & Dinner Vibes

Curated Cocktail Hour & Dinner Vibes

After the Formal Part of a wedding, the Dancing part is definitely the highlight of the night. Why? because it is. When I talk to a couple, one of the first question I ask is: What kind of vibe are you looking for at your wedding.? As a DJ / Band or any type of live performer, our job is to  to curate an atmosphere and controlling the vibe and flow of the the couples special day.

Couples and their guests expect to have a great time and create lifetime memories. So Curating the right energy during cocktail hour and dinner to set up the dancing part is very important. As a DJ, it is my job to build up the energy as we get closer and closer to dancing. Playing the right music at the right time is important for the ambience. When consulting your couple, be sure to inquire what kind of energy they would like. For both their cocktail hour and dinner music, work with them. Learn about their style, what they want and also tell them what you can bring to the table to elevate the ambiance. Even though the music might at a lower volume during that time, you must set the mood right because it’s all part of the experience. So curate a playlist that will create a mood and subtly speak to the guests.

This will set the party to a great start leading to an amazing dancing part of the night.

I am a Professional DJ / Vibe Curator located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Utah Jazz DJ, My service includes: Private event, corporate event, wedding. If you have any questions about this process I would love to help. Feel free to contact me.

Wedding Hacks Every Brides and Groom Should know

Wedding Hacks

As we dive in into engagement season, a lot of couples are also planning their weddings. This is a celebration of a life time and it could be very stressful. Planning any event is never easy let alone planning your own wedding. From my own experience on working with brides and doing my own research online, I came up with a few wedding hacks. It will help you take some of the stress of your shoulder and help you plan your wedding faster.

  1. Before you start sending invites to everyone you know on facebook and instagram, take sometimes to curate your guest list. It should be a special list of the people you really want to be apart of your celebration. Some people do not need to be invited. They can see your beautiful pictures online. Make sure to do a rough draft so you can feel good about the people you want to party with. Once you are done with your first draft of your guest it will give you an estimate of the amount of people you can expect to be present at your wedding. This will also help you narrow down venue options that are too big , too small or to far away. Then, you will only be looking at places that are right in your sweet spot. Not every venue will be ideal for your party so by doing that you will to focus on the ones with the most potential.

  2. Know your numbers. A few of your most important expenses for a successful party are: Venue and Entertainment. They also go hand and hand. Come up with a budget that will cover your needs but also has some room for some creativity. Have a solid max number in your head and and work around that. You should have an idea of your budget so you aren’t going near places you get excited about but are way out of your budget. But doing this you will save a lot of money, and time. Some vendors have a base price but with the add ons the price and escalate quickly. So make sure to also ask what’s included in the package you might be interested in.

  3. Plan everything well in advance When it comes to booking vendors for weddings, things get booked very fast. Give yourself a solid year to start planning. Start booking the most important part of your weeding: Venues, Entertainment, Catering etc… early . If you have less than 12 months to plan your wedding you will have to be more flexible.

  4. Keep your guests in mind ALWAYS when looking at venues and entertainment. Make sure the DJ / Band you should can cater to the type of guest your are inviting to your weeding. If you are going to be having a lot of out of town guests you want to choose a venue that has adequate hotels nearby, and is easy to get to. Those are my top tips for planning a wedding every Bride and Groom Should Know.

How much a DJ cost?

How much a DJ cost?

How much a DJ Cost?.PNG

This is the first question I get when I meet with a potential client looking to hire my DJ services. Whether it is for a Private event, Corporate Event, or a wedding. How much do you cost?

There’s more than one factor that will determine a DJ cost. I can't tell you how much other DJ’s charge, but I had to go back to the drawing board to find for my business. I did my homework to understand my worth and my value and determine how much I should charge a client.

First of all, every event is different. The amount I will charge for a festival, a major company event will not be the same as a private event, or a wedding. Instead of asking someone how much they cost, a better question could be: what will take for you to be my DJ for this event? Now you give the DJ a chance to learn more about your needs and give you a chance to understand his pricing.

One other factor is location. Not all locations are created equal. A DJ in a major city, will probably have a higher fee than a DJ in a smaller town. With that being said that does not mean because you are small town you should expect every DJ to be Cheap. Some DJ’s have more experienced than others and can bring more on the table.

When you hire a DJ, you hire him Her for their expertise also. The duration of the event is a small factor. you hire him/her to help you elevate the quality of the event you are putting. DJ’s with experience will have a network of professional they work with. Because they are part of many different types of event, they can teach you about creating a great experience. They can teach you about different elements such as lighting, sound equipment and of course music that will be beneficial to the project.

Some DJ’s will have set price per Hour, some will charge you for the day, some will charge you for the type of event you are putting. So, before you plan to hire any DJ, make sure to do your research on the potential DJ or DJ’s you are looking to hire. Find out first from the content they have online and a phone conversation if this person is the right person for the Job. If possible, go listen to them play live, check out their Mixtape online. According to WeddingWire:” If you're considering hiring a DJ to play music at your wedding, keep in mind that the average wedding DJ cost in the U.S. is around $1,000 with most couples spending between $780 to $1,495.” Be aware of those numbers, because not all event is equal. Some DJ will charge well over $5000 - $10000; some DJ will be happy with $500 for the same night. The major question to ask if you are considering hiring a DJ is, on a scale to 10 how important having a great DJ is for us? If it is a 10 make sure you look around for a 10 DJ. A great DJ will more often than not have a much higher price than the average but will be a great asset to you.

Let me know what your experience of hiring as DJ has been in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.

As a Corporate Event DJ Located In Salt lake City, Utah, I love having the opportunity to serve a company and help them create a day or night full of experiences. I always leave my events with a feeling of team building, community, productivity and fun. The more your attendees get involved, the better relationships are forged which has a positive impact on productivity and the working environment long-term as well as making employees feel valued.

Utah Jazz to host Salt Lake City Summer League

 – NBA summer league basketball in Utah took a new twist in 2019 and renamed the Salt Lake City Summer League – a four-team, six-game event hosted by the Utah Jazz on July 1-3 at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The participating teams in the round-robin summer showcase in downtown Salt Lake City was the Jazz, San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies along with newcomer Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Salt Lake City Summer League presented by University of Utah Heath and the Utah Sports Commission had a new look in its fifth year. Games were played on a modified City Edition court.

I enjoyed being the DJ for the Utah Jazz event, filled with so much activities and energy. All the new players were enjoying the vibrant music Pre-games in and during breaks. I could not be happier and more thankful for this opportunity. Having a DJ was very important to the organization to make sure the atmosphere was on point and projecting a fun and inviting vibe for the guests. As a professional DJ in the Utah, I got right to work and impressed the players and the fans. I met a lot people from the Utah Jazz organizations. I am looking forward to work with them during the regular season and more.
